What are Other Educators Saying?

S. Beauvais

"I was lucky enough to work under Dr. Kendra Wood’s leadership for around 4 years. She was not just my boss or the student’s principal, she created an environment where everyone felt like family. She has a unique ability to make each student and staff feel loved and valued.

Personally for my family she showed up in ways that principals just don’t do, but of course, she did. When my baby started kindergarten, she went out of her way to check on her, send me pictures, and offer words of affirmation to make me and her feel safe. I have learned to navigate so many situations with justice and grace simply from watching the actions of Dr. Kendra Woods. She is a person who truly leads by example. Wherever there is a need, she is there with experience, advice, and all the resources. What a privilege it is to have worked under her."

"Mrs. Woods hired me for a Math initiative in 2014. She coached me because Math was not my strong suit. She was patient and reassuring as well, she was firm and had high expectations."

I have personally had the privilege of working and learning alongside Dr. Woods for five years. Her open and honest transparency around anything school related provided me with so much growth working in an administrative position. She has shown me the balance between black/white and grey leadership. One of the biggest take aways working with Dr. Woods is always lead with care and do the work WITH people not TO people.

Dr. Woods became Principal of of our school at a challenging time - just before schools closed in 2020 for in-person learning. She found a struggling school: failing grades, disconnected teachers, and a broken school community.

She brought a simple change: treating teachers like people, not numbers. This built trust, and that trust grew into a real school family.

As the saying goes, "a fish rots from the head" - but it also thrives from good leadership too. Under Dr. Woods' leadership, everything changed for the good. Teachers came together, students responded and enrolled in record numbers, and our school grades went up. What started as a small change grew into something remarkable: our school went from being the city’s lowest-performing school to its second highest performing year after year, all from the concept of treating people as people!

Working under Dr. Woods (or Kendra, as she doesn't mind being called) is an absolute privilege. Her dedication to fostering a positive school culture is truly inspiring. She leads with integrity, compassion, and a clear vision, ensuring that both students and staff feel valued and supported. Through her commitment to excellence and inclusivity, she creates an environment where learning thrives, teamwork flourishes, and every individual is encouraged to reach their full potential. Kendra is more than just a leader—she is a mentor, a motivator, and the heart of any school community she comes into. Kendra is the epitome of positive school culture!

I had the privilege of working under the exceptional leadership of Mrs. Kendra Woods, and I can confidently say that she is one of the best principals I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Her approach to leadership is truly unique, and it's something that has left a long-lasting impact on me even years after leaving the profession.

Mrs. Woods is a patient and attentive leader who truly listens to her staff. She treats her team with respect and kindness, creating a positive and supportive work environment that motivates and inspires everyone around her. She is one of the very reasons I went from a TA to a Teacher. I can’t thank her enough!

What sets her apart from other leaders is her willingness to roll up her sleeves and get involved. She doesn't just delegate tasks, she gets out into the field alongside her team. Her "boots were most definitely on the ground"! lol This kind of leadership by example
is a rare quality, and it's something that I'll never forgotten.

Dr. Kendra Woods is the epitome of “practice what you preach.” Culture and relationships are at the forefront of how she interacts with staff, parents and students. She is a true champion for children, always reminding us that they can and will make mistakes, they are worthy of love, education, and second chances and that they are capable of anything. There is no one better to have as a leader. She will be the first person to remind you that you are a person, wife, mother, etc first before you are an employee. She values your thoughts, opinions and ideas and will work alongside you to bring them all to life.

You meet some people in life who truly change your outlook on everything. Dr. Kendra Woods is that person for me. Before she was my colleague and I began working with her;  she was my children’s principal. She truly cares for every single person & radiates positivity daily! The world needs more Dr. Woods!
